Institution Profile: Founded in 1848, Muhlenberg College is an independent, undergraduate, coeducational institution related to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The College provides an intellectually rigorous education within the context of a supportive, diverse residential community. Committed to educating the whole person through experiences within and beyond the classroom, our curriculum integrates the traditional liberal arts with selected pre-professional studies. Our faculty is passionate about teaching, value close relationships with students, and are active scholars. The college serves traditional students through its regular day programs and non-traditional students through The Wescoe School of Muhlenberg College. Muhlenberg College is a member institution of the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges.

Approximately 95% of Muhlenberg's full-time students reside on campus. Students participate in a variety of social, cultural, religious, political, leadership, and service organizations and activities. Athletic activities include a strong intramural program as well as 11 Men's and 11 Women's varsity intercollegiate sports. Muhlenberg competes in the NCAA Division III level in the Centennial Conference.

All classes are taught by full-time or part-time faculty members; there are no teaching assistants. Students benefit from a 12/1 student-faculty ratio and an average class size of 19. Muhlenberg has 170 full-time and 115 part-time faculty members of which over 85% have Ph.D. or other terminal degrees. Muhlenberg's academic program is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the New York State Board of Regents.

Muhlenberg students are drawn largely from the Middle Atlantic and New England states, although approximately 35 states and a dozen foreign countries are represented within the student body. Geographic distribution consists of the following: New Jersey 36%, New York 19%, Pennsylvania 19%, New England 15%, Del./Md./Va./D.C. 5%, Other States/Foreign 5%.
